A Kitchen with Wow Factor

The Beginning

A dated 1980's kitchen is ready to be brought into the 21st century. Demo the existing kitchen to create a blank canvas for an innovative kitchen design.

The Concept

Essential goal: Design a light-filled kitchen that functions well for a busy family of five. The client wanted to capture the abundance of light at the back of her house and bring it inside. To accomplish the task, we removed walls to open up the spaces and added windows. Plus we kept the new interior elements clean-lined, neutral, and simple.

The Transformation

Using the footprint of the existing space, a new kitchen layout includes many modern features, such as an induction cook-top, a dishwasher and a half, a built-in oven/warming drawer, a counter depth refrigerator, and many custom storage options.
To add light, a sunroom addition to the back of the house connects to the kitchen via removal of an exterior wall.
To create openness, the wall between the family room and kitchen was removed to visually connect all three spaces.
The combination of Shaker-style cabinets in warm maple, creamy-beige granite countertops, and painted island cabinets, defines the color scheme.
Tumbled mosaic tiles add a pop of color, texture, and create a focal point behind the contemporary (and powerful!) hood vent.
The use of a calm, neutral, color scheme carries through the kitchen with the lightly textured stone backsplash and the warm wood floors.
