A Living Room for Music, Reading, and Entertaining

This project began with a room filled with natural light and simple architecture. Our client asked for a comfortable, casual, room using the vibrant colors of orange, red, and green. Other priorities for this space included comfortable places for playing a cello and reading.

We began with a new floor plan for the living room, creating intimate spaces within the vaulted ceiling space.

A wool area rug grounds the furniture arrangement and inspires the color scheme for the room.

Furniture selections were made specifically for our client's space and floor plan...focusing on the dimension of each piece to maximize seating without crowding the space.

Fabric selections—based on rich, coordinating colors and various textures—add warmth to the room.

In designing the window treatment, we took into consideration that the client wanted to combine privacy at night and a view during the day. The combination of fabric panels and woven blinds works well together.

Simple, well-crafted wood pieces complete the room. The bookcase unit serves two functions: provides much needed open/closed storage and creates a focal point in the room. Adding art to the top of the bookcases draws the eye up to vaulted ceiling.

To complement the client's pottery collection, the finishing details in the room include the selection of colorful, ceramic lamps.
