Front Room and Dining Room Build Partner: Lighthouse Craftsman

Merging Fun and Functional

This 1940s townhome in Frederick is owned by a return client.  Back in 2011, the homeowner was single and in need of a kitchen redesign. Fast forward eleven years and our client is married with two children.

The small footprint of  this historic home required more function to accommodate a bigger household. The wish was to increase storage and optimize living  space without losing the eclectic, retro style that defined the home.

In the front room, we removed a radiator and installed a fireplace. This created a focal point, emphasized with gorgeous tile from clé tile and custom cabinetry for storing tech and gaming equipment. We chose a cozy sectional for maximum seating, and kept the client’s retro upholstered chair. A lovely, complementary rug pulls the color story  together and creates even  more coziness. The homeowner’s art above the couch is a  charming homage to Baltimore, and continues the eclectic mood.

The dining room needed to be multipurpose in order to boost the functionality. This flexible space provides a place for the family to gather for dinner, tons of storage with a wall of built-in cabinetry that doubles as a sideboard, and a built-in desktop for homework. Custom millwork completes the  design and maintains a vintage feel.

This charming home is all about merging the client’s fun style with a more functional approach for the family. By combining custom cabinetry, comfy furniture, and colorful accessories, the spaces look fresh and inviting–and the vintage charm is intact.
